Indian Head Massage

Updated: Apr 5, 2023

I now offer Indian Head Massage, and you can book with me online for this beautiful treatment.

What is Indian Head Massage?

Also known as champissage, which is where we get the word shampoo from. It is the oldest recorded example of massage and has been practised in India for over 1000 years. The treatment focuses on acupressure points along the head, neck, and shoulders. It is stimulating, energising, and deeply relaxing and can be used with or without oils.

Traditionally, it was only women who were using champissage on their children and other family members. This grooming ritual was originally limited to the scalp and hair on the head. However, it became a popular complementary therapy in the late 1970s after Narendra Mehta came here to study and was disappointed when the massages he received did not include the head. As a result, the Indian Head Massage has now evolved into the face, neck, shoulders and upper arms. This addresses the body’s most important energy channels and helps combat muscle stress.

Why would you choose to have Indian Head Massage?

Indian Head Massage is a shorter treatment with many physical, spiritual and emotional health benefits.

The aim is to release tension in the muscles and joints of the head, face, neck and shoulders. The experience is soothing and comforting, leaving a sense of increased vitality, focus and renewal.

It can relieve migraines, promote hair growth, stimulate the lymphatic and circulatory systems (boosting immunity and removing toxins), relieve insomnia and fatigue, improve symptoms of anxiety and depression, increase energy levels and even enhance memory capabilities.

At the end of every treatment, I balance the crown, third eye and throat chakras to bring harmony and equilibrium to your whole being.

All my holistic treatments currently take place at The Pod in Burton Latimer; however, this portable treatment can be enjoyed anywhere without needing any special equipment. In addition, I will be training in more therapeutic holistic therapies all the time, so watch this space!

My yoga students enjoy a 10% discount on all treatments; please ask me for details.
