This week's session began by exploring the different types of stress – acute, chronic, and episodic – and their impact on our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Through group discussions, we each identified our stressors and shared experiences.
We looked back on what we had covered in the previous session, and noted that stress affects every level of the Hierarchy of Needs - particularly attacking that foundational level of basic needs.
The focus then shifted to practical stress management techniques. From Radical Acceptance and setting boundaries to relaxation techniques and mindfulness practices, we talked about a variety of approaches to reduce stress levels.
We enjoyed a 'fill your cup' meditation that emphasizes cultivating inner peace, reducing anxiety, and finding balance. You can listen to it here.
The session ended with each of us sharing a personal 'go-to' strategy for dealing with overwhelm or stress.
If you're bothered by stress, I encourage you to explore these strategies and prioritise self-care. Remember, taking time to recharge is not selfish but essential for your overall health and happiness.
This weekly session runs every Wednesday between 7.30 and 8.30 at The Midwives Circle and Wellness Centre in Kettering. It is a donation-based offering and you can find out more here.
