Who are they for?
All my classes are suitable for anybody to attend, from complete beginners to experienced yogis. Still, if you have a specific issue you are working with (physically or emotionally), having private sessions can be very beneficial. They also suit people who are nervous in a group situation or feel unsure about participating in a yoga class.
What do you cover in a 1:1
Before the first session, we will schedule a 20-minute consultation to explore your specific needs. Each client will enjoy a unique experience; however, the fundamental structure will be as follows:
Sharing - a quick chat about the session's aims and how you are feeling today)
Grounding, focussing awareness - bringing you into the here and now
Warming up - gentle movement to prepare the body for asana
Asanas (postures) tailored to your needs
Pranayama (breath work)
Meditation
Because it will just be the two of us, we can talk about how you are feeling, and we can make adaptations as we go. I can also deliver some yoga therapy if you wish; this usually means I gently apply pressure to areas of the body whilst you are in a posture to intensify the pose.
Is it very spiritual?
Depending on what we have agreed, spirituality, philosophy etc., can be woven throughout our practice - or we can remain focussed purely on the physical aspect of asana. The session is yours to adapt to your preferences.
Is this an exercise class? No, this is not a cardio activity; you will not work up a sweat. It will undoubtedly help you to remain physically well from head to toe. Your joints will be mobilised, muscles all over the body will be activated, and you will learn how to breathe fully and correctly. You should also look out for the following benefits (this list is not exhaustive):
Better sleep
Improved posture
Reduced aches and pains
Improved respiration, energy and vitality
Maintaining a balanced metabolism
Improved mental health
Weight reduction
Cardio and circulatory health
Reduced inflammation
Improved strength
Improved athletic performance
Reduced anxiety
Better balance
Improved bone health
Enhanced brain functioning
Protection from injury
What do I need to wear and bring with me to class?
You can wear whatever you like if it allows easy movement. Leggings, jogging bottoms or slacks are good - with a vest/T-shirt and sweatshirt on the top. Yoga is practised barefoot, ideally, but you can buy yoga socks if you are more comfortable with your feet covered. I would also recommend warm socks for relaxation at the end.
Ideally, you will bring a mat to class (but if you don't have one, you can borrow one) and a blanket.
I hope this has answered any questions you have about working with me in a private session; please get in touch with me if you are interested or would like further information.
