Things I'll Never Say In Class - Part 1

You’ll never hear me talk about ‘earning’ or ‘burning off’ calories.

I focus on nourishing the body and mind without guilt or shame. I strongly believe in a healthy relationship with food and promote guilt-free, mindful indulgence. The concept of 'earning' or 'burning off' calories is a mindset that I actively avoid.

This perspective can be very triggering, especially for those who have had or currently have a challenging relationship with food.

It implies that food consumption is something to feel guilty about, something that needs to be 'paid for' with exercise or restriction. I take a different approach.

When food consumption is associated with guilt or shame, it fosters an unhealthy relationship with food. Instead of enjoying the delicious flavours and nutrients that food provides, it becomes a source of anxiety and stress. This not only takes away from the joy of eating but can also lead to harmful behaviours and mental health issues.

Enjoy your food guilt-free, savouring each bite mindfully. It's all about finding harmony and joy in both indulgence and self-care! Food should be enjoyed, not feared. I encourage our students to savour each bite and truly taste and appreciate the flavours. Rather than rushing through meals or feeling guilty about indulgence, I promote mindful eating. This involves being fully present during meals, paying attention to each bite's taste, texture, and smell, and genuinely enjoying the experience. It’s all about finding balance and joy in both indulgence and self-care.

Nourish your body and mind with delicious food this time of year and always.

Regardless of the time of year, nourishing your body and mind with delicious, nutritious food is crucial. Whether it's a hearty winter soup or a refreshing summer salad, there's no need to restrict yourself or feel guilty about enjoying food. After all, food is not just fuel - it's a source of pleasure, a way to connect with others, and a key component of self-care. So go ahead, enjoy your food guilt-free and remember: it's all about balance and joy!

Please join me in breaking free from calorie guilt and fostering a healthier, more positive relationship with food.
