Week In Review - 11th November 2024

Theme of the week:  Renewal Through Rest - Finding Our Roots

Classes Taught: 8

This past week, our sessions embraced the wisdom of winter, a season often overlooked for its transformative potential. Inspired by Sharon Blackie’s evocative reflections on “the gifts of the darker months,” we allowed ourselves to pause, to root down, and to draw nourishment from the quiet stillness this time of year offers.

Winter has long been seen as a season of retreat, a time when the natural world slows its pace, conserving energy for the renewal ahead. But this is not merely a time of waiting for warmth and light. Winter asks us to listen, to lean into the silence, and to uncover the hidden reserves within ourselves.

Winter offers us an opportunity to compost – to shed what no longer serves us and allow it to decompose into something nourishing for future growth. What old habits, thoughts, or beliefs had served their purpose but were now ready to return to the earth?

In a culture that glorifies busyness, it can feel counterintuitive to step back, to do less, to simply *be*. But this week, we gave ourselves permission to sit with discomfort, to honour the shadows we might usually push aside. Just as seeds lie hidden beneath frozen soil, we too hold within us dormant potential – waiting, gathering strength for the right moment to emerge.

**The Supermoon’s Illumination**

The highlight of our week came as we worked under the rare and luminous supermoon. Its radiant presence illuminated not just the night sky but our inner landscapes. As we visualised its light cascading through the bare branches of our inner tree, we were reminded of the beauty in vulnerability and the promise that even the darkest nights are filled with light.

The supermoon brought with it a sense of wonder and renewal, amplifying our ability to connect with the earth below and the sky above. It reminded us that even in stillness, there is movement; even in darkness, there is transformation.

As we move forward, let’s carry with us the lessons of this week. May we find courage in the stillness, trust in the darkness, and strength in the deep roots we have cultivated. And, as Sharon Blackie so eloquently puts it, may we view winter not as a season to endure but as a chance to “find our way back home to ourselves.”

Glimmers of the week

  • A new client telling me that the yoga session I led allowed her to feel safe in her own skin. This is an absolute privilege for me.

  • Working away behind the scenes on some special plans for December.

  • Misty mornings and golden hues - I love Autumn so much.

  • Another beautiful Womens Circle at The Pod on Sunday afternoon where we looked at Winter Wellness.
